Exciting News: We’re Compliant with EU Organic Regulation 848/2018

QIMA IBD has officially received approval to conduct inspections and issue organic certificates in full compliance with the European Union’s new Organic Regulation (EU) 848/2018. This regulation, which takes effect January 1, 2025, updates standards for the production, certification, labeling and advertising of organic products sold in the EU. From that date, all organic products must be certified by an EU-recognized body to be sold as organic in the European market.

This milestone is especially significant for organic producers across the Americas who aim to access or expand their presence in the European market. As one of the few certification bodies in Latin America approved under this regulation, we are now strategically positioned to support our clients throughout North, Central, and South America in meeting these new, stricter EU standards. This approval highlights our ongoing commitment to advancing organic agriculture and supporting sustainable growth across the region.

“For producers across the Americas, gaining access to the European organic market is crucial, and our approval under Regulation 848/2018 enables us to provide the certifications they need,” said Maria Claudia Vicente, Technical Manager (Organic BR, EU and NOP/USDA). “This achievement not only strengthens our services, but also reinforces our role in promoting organic integrity from farm to table. We are proud to support the organic movement across the continent, helping producers meet EU requirements and grow their businesses internationally.”

The EU organic market is one of the most lucrative in the world, and the updated Regulation 848/2018 reflects a growing demand for transparency, sustainability and quality in organic products. For producers in the Americas, compliance with this regulation represents an opportunity to tap into new markets while demonstrating a commitment to the highest standards of organic production. Our certification services are designed to ensure products from the Americas meet these rigorous criteria, opening doors to increased export opportunities.

In addition to certification, QIMA IBD offers comprehensive guidance to help producers and exporters across the Americas navigate the complexities of the new EU regulation. By partnering with us, businesses can ensure their products are certified, providing confidence to consumers and regulators alike.

We are deeply grateful for the trust and support of our clients across the Americas. Your confidence in our services has been instrumental to our success, and we look forward to continuing to meet your needs as we help drive the growth of organic products throughout the region.
